All About Ms. Cooney!
"Children will not remember the maps and equations we teach them every day. Instead, they will remember the classroom community we build and the love in our hearts."
Teaching is not a job. It is a passion and a lifestyle. I hope to inspire my students every day and to learn from them just as much as they learn from me. I think the most important thing I can do for my students is to listen to their thoughts and concerns and show them that they are being heard.
I am currently studying Elementary Education at the University of Missouri--Columbia with additional certifications in Early Childhood Education and TESOL.
Here is a little bit about me!
I am from my Grandma Fran’s antique style jewelry box in which I tried on every piece of Jewelry from broaches and rings, to necklaces and pins and waltzed around the house, chewing my watermelon Hubba Bubba gum and sporting my white fringed cowgirl boots, pretending to be as glamorous as Grandma was.
I am from the home of the gold rush ghost town and a ranch style house, which sat quietly upon a giant hill. I am from the home of the orca in a cottage style house, full of Irish-Catholic relics and the love of my stern but caring Grandma Nora.
I am from the shade of the palm trees, picking snails and rollie pollie’s from the dirt and collecting them for my own animal kingdom.
I am from the wet and misty scent of the evergreen, to chasing butterflies with my sister and cousin’s in my grandmother’s garden.
I am from the “Secret Bordeaux Candy Club” with my dad and my sister, getting lost in the car with my mother to find new adventures, to chasing rainbows to find the pot of gold at the end with Grandma Nora.
I am from the love and patience of my mother and the consistency of my father. I am from sitting on Dad’s lap in the cockpit of the MD80 to serving cocktails in the galley with mom.
I am from “Your Christmas presents are flying out the window” when I was bad and “Lord love a duck” when I was ridiculous.
I am from a long line of devout Irish Catholics. From Mass every Sunday morning to prayers before every meal.
I am from Ireland and only Ireland. I am from believing in the magic of Leprechauns and St. Patrick’s Day serving as the main family holiday.
I am from steak and potatoes at least twice a week, my mother’s warm apple crisp, and my grandmother’s famous BLT.
I am from ruthless, hair-pulling fights with my big sister and now having to admit my mother was right when she told us we would be best friends when we got older.
I am from unorganized storage bins filled with thousands of old family photos stuffed into a corner of my mother’s sewing room and the hallway full of yellowing photos and family trees listing the Irish names of people I will never meet, yet come together to create “where I’m from”.
